I believe that leaders should be able to shift into different modes of leadership. Given that, my default leadership style is democratic pacesetter. I value getting buy-in and input from my team to ensure alignment, then set a clear pace and expectations. This result in work people are proud of because they had a hand in shaping it.
Good example of this is the time this approach helped us win Specialty Pharmacy of the Year, twice.
I came up through the full arc of how brands communicate. Most creative leaders came up through craft. I found my way through strategy, audience, channel, message, and execution — then took the time to develop the creative leadership layer on top. That means I'm not just directing creative. I'm directing creative built to perform.
Fostering creative environments sometimes means pushing people further than they push themselves. I regularly champion my team's ideas, often because I've already pushed them past their comfort zone into work they know is compelling. That's part of the work.
I encourage those around me to use AI as a tool, but not a crutch. Every time I adopt a new platform, I apply the same three principles:
• leverage it, but don't over-leverage it.
• It's not a substitute for process.
• And innovation is something to embrace, not fear.
